Septic System Inspection
Preliminary Inspection
We provide preliminary inspections for our customers before they sell their home. This allows them to get ahead of any concerns or repairs that may arise when a potential buyer does their own inspection of the septic system. When preliminary inspections are done and problems are addressed beforehand, it allows a much easier transaction for the seller and the buyer in the real estate transaction.
In-Depth System Inspection
Septic inspections start in the home, examining the homes interior plumbing leading to the septic. We verify there are no additional systems to inspect other than the main septic system. We also check to make sure there are no garbage disposals, sewer ejection pumps in the basement, or water softeners are tied into the system.
All of these are a strain on the system and a concern.
Then we move outside and inspect every component starting with the septic tank. The tank is opened liquid level is the first thing checked. Then the condition of the lids, risers, and baffles are checked. Finally, we insert a fiber optic sewer camera and inspect the line from the tank back to the house to ensure it’s in satisfactory condition.
After we have verified that there are no major flaws in the system that are immediately noticeable, we insert a fiber optic sewer camera and inspect the line from the tank and back to the house to ensure it’s in satisfactory condition.
After that, we move to the conveyance line out of the tank, which is also checked for its condition. When we locate the drainage area, whether it be seepage pits or a drain field, we dig up and inspect either the liquid level in the seepage pits, or the distribution box in a drain field and the condition we find it in.
Then, in a drain field, we run the sewer camera through the laterals to check their condition and to check for standing water. Next we probe the area to check for saturation and to make sure the stone in the absorption area is clean and dry.
If a homes been vacant for more than 30 days we always recommend a Hydroluc load test be done on the system. A load test introduces the recommended daily flow for the system over a two day period and we monitor the water level in the distribution area to ensure the system can disperse the water as designed.
We use the highest quality rigid sewer cameras and locating equipment.

I attend yearly training at Rutgers on their septic system inspection course. I also attend classes in Indiana yearly at the annual septic pumper and installer show. I’m a certified installer in just about every town in North Jersey that requires a certification.
